How To Identify Full-Time Faculty

One of the questions we are frequently asked is how to identify full time faculty.  Although the answer may seem simple - employees with CBID of 'R03' and a time base value of 'FT' -  it can be more involved.

Full Time

If your report request has a screening statement for time base equal to full-time (IF AC:TIMEBASE EQ FT) then only employees with a single full-time position will be selected.  Your report will not include those employees who have multiple part-time positions whose total time base is full-time or greater. To identify those employees, sum the full time equivalent (FTE) value for all positions held by an employee. Then, screen on the summed value to identify those employees with a total FTE of 1.0 or greater.

For example: SUM AC:FTE   BY AC:SSA   WHERE TOTAL AC:FTE GE 1.0

Faculty

Generally, any employee with a CBID of R03 is considered to be faculty.  However, based on your campus reporting needs, you may want to include additional classifications such as Teaching Associates (2353 and 2354) or Instructional Faculty Extension (2363). To capture these employees in your report, you'll need to use a compound screening statement.

For example:  WHERE (AC:CBID EQ 'R03)  OR  (AC:CLASS EQ '2353' or '2354' or '2363')

Sample Request

This report request uses the commands discussed above along with multiple verbs to identify all active/onleave employees whose total time base of all R03 or related classes is full-time. Note: The sort phrases are indented to emphasize that any sorts associated with the first verb (SUM) must also be used with the subsequent verb (PRINT).
