The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) requires employers to verify employment eligibility of all employees hired on or after November 7, 1986 via completion of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) I-9 form. The Act provides comprehensive lists of acceptable documents for employment eligibility. An individual must present a document or documents that establish identity and employment eligibility, however, the choice of documents from those lists is the employee’s alone. The campus may not require the employee to present additional or different documents than the ones chosen by the employee from those lists. If an employee does not have a Social Security card, enter ’SS5 Sent’ in Item 105 and send the
PPT to CSU Audits for processing. Refer to
Item 105 and
Transaction 825, and Noncitizen Appointments for additional information.

Note however, that since this item is not required on a student assistant position, a Special Payment Transaction (A54) or positions separated prior to implementation of Item 125 in July 1990, Item 125 is required on the additional position if the existing position is descriptive of one of the aforementioned situations (or categories).
Item 714, Recruitment Location, must be entered for all new full-time faculty.
