Item 718 - Management Data Element No. 3

This field is used for several purposes: 1) for Department Chairs, to collect department chair time base information, 2) for Physicians, to record certification by a medical specialty board, and 3) as a one-time use only.

Department Chairs

Used to denote the administrative assignment portion, up to full-time, for all department chair (2481 or 2482) positions.   If an employee has both an instructional faculty position and department chair position, the time base information entered in Item 718 should be the same as the time base of the department chair position.  

 

Coding:

FT = Full-Time

XXXX = Part-time Fraction (without the leading 0, no slash or hyphen)

Examples:

0104 = Time base in class 2481 is FT. The department chair administrative assignment portion is one-quarter (001/004).

FT    = Time base in class 2481 is FT. The department chair administrative assignment portion is full-time (FT).

0304 = Time base in class 2481 is FT. The department chair administrative assignment portion is three-quarters (003/004).

0102 = Time base in class 2481 is FT. The department chair administrative assignment portion is half-time (001/020).

0102 = Time base in class 2481 is 001/002. Time base in class 2360 is 001/002. The department chair administrative assignment portion is half-time (001/002).

0205 = Time base in class 2481 is 002/005.  Time base in class 2360 is 003/005.  The department chair administrative assignment portion is two-fifths (002/005).

Physicians

Used to record the Physician's medical board certification.  Those appointed on or after September 1, 1988 must possess and maintain one board certification relevant to the assigned duties.  Refer to HR 2006-16 and Executive Order 943.

Coding:

FMLY = Family Practice

INTL = Internal Medicine

OBGN = Obstetrics/Gynecology

PEDS = Pediatrics/Adolescent Medicine

EQIV = Other medical board certification relevant to the assigned duties.  Also used for newly hired Physicians who have not yet received board certification.

One Time Use

The following codes were used one time only to identify individuals in active employment on 07-01-89 who did not possess appropriate certification or had been mis-classified. No new appointments, reappointments or reinstatements may be processed for individuals with the following codes:

Coding:

NONE = Those hired prior to September 1, 1988 only, or

CONV = Those hired prior to September 1, 1988 in Physician II classes who did not possess one of the four medical specialties or the equivalent. These individuals were 'grandfathered' into the new Physician class on 07-01-89.
