Item 125 - Disability Veteran Status

As of October 1, 2008, no entry is required in this field.  Effective October 31, 2001, this is a 1-character field used for Federal Contractor Veterans’ Employment reporting requirements. For additional information, refer to Technical Letters HR/EHDB 2001-04 and HR 2001-30 on the Systemwide Human Resources web site.

 

Previously, this was a 3-character field used to identify an employee's disability status, whether the disability was connected to military service, and the nature of the disability, if any. The second and third characters are now obsolete and not available for key entry.

 

Coding:

X (alpha character)  Where X identifies the employee’s Disability Veteran Status. The codes are A, B, C or N as defined below.

A = Veteran of the Vietnam Era:

  1. A veteran who served on active duty for a period of more than 180 days, and was discharged or released with other than a dishonorable discharge, if any part of such active duty occurred:

    • in the Republic of Vietnam between February 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975; or

    • between August 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975 in all other cases.

  1. A veteran who was discharged or released from active duty for a service connected disability if any part of such active duty was performed:

    • in the Republic of Vietnam between February 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975; or

    • between August 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975 in all other cases.

B = Special Disabled Veteran:

  1. A veteran who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs for a disability:

    • rated at 30 percent or more, or

    • rated at 10 to 20 percent if it has been determined that the individual has a serious employment disability.

  1. A veteran who was discharged or released from active duty for a service connected disability if any part of such active duty was performed.

C = Other Eligible Veteran:

A veteran who served on active duty during a war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized.

N = None of the Above

Example:

  1. An honorably discharged Vietnam veteran = code "A"

  2. A 50% rated disabled veteran of the Persian Gulf War = code "B"
