Item 405 - Time Base

This is an alpha/numeric code that identifies the fraction of time for which the employee is being appointed to the position. If a fraction is entered, it must be less than full-time. Full time must be entered as 'FT'.

 

Coding:

FT = Full-Time

INT = Intermittent

IND = Indeterminate

XX/XX = Part-time Fraction

Audits:

405-02 TIME BASE MUST BE 'IND' OR 'INT'. NONROSTERED APPOINTMENT.

If transaction is A54, time base must be 'IND' or 'INT'.

405-03 TIME BASE MUST BE 'INT' FOR CLASS ENTERED.

If class code is 2356, 2362, 2365 or 4660, time base must be 'INT'.

405-04 TIME BASE MUST BE 'IND' FOR CLASS ENTERED.

If class code is 1869, 2357 or 2457 time base must be 'IND'.

405-05 TRADE RATE EMPLOYEES MUST HAVE A TIME BASE INT.

If the class is designated as Casual Employment in the CSU Salary Schedule, time base must be 'INT'.

Instructions:

  1. Academic year employees cannot be Intermittent.

  2. For Graduate Assistants (2325, 2326, 2355), the appointment fraction cannot exceed half-time (e.g., Item 405 = 01/02). For more information, refer to Technical Letter HR/EHDB 2005-02.

More Info:

  1. The definition of full-time is determined by the bargaining agreement or CSU policy for the respective classification code.

  2. When processing a Transaction 405 to increase the employee's time base in the position, or if the employee's total time base is increasing because of an appointment to an additional position:

    1. Review the retirement code in Item 505.

    2. Determine if the new time base value, in combination with other CalPERS eligibility criteria, requires that the employee be placed in CalPERS membership.

    3. If CalPERS membership is a requirement, enter the appropriate code in Item 505, or process a Transaction 505.
