Tips For Using The Employment History Extract File

  • The EH extract process is typically used to create a current status file for any point in time from 1976 forward, or to extract all transactions for all positions held by an employee.  For instructions and examples of extract profiles, refer to the CIRS User Manual.

  • When an EH file is created for 5 or more years, and you need transaction detail, you should check for employees who are missing transactions due to data overflow.  Data overflow occurs when an employee's record size (over 160 transactions) exceeds the system's limit.  Typically, these employees have multiple position sequences and can be identified by the field: Data Overflow Indicator.   If an employee has data overflow, create another extract for that employee using a smaller range of time, or by supplying a specific position sequence.
