What We Learned

This section includes a sampling of selected research findings.
Broader impacts will be shared in a future peer-reviewed journal article.

Understanding the Landscape

The research study aimed to better understand how service learning was being implemented across the CSU campuses, if there were common underlying elements in implementation, and the overall quality of these elements. The quality of these elements were addressed through the analysis of 1) course syllabus, and 2) student and faculty ratings.

Identifying Student Outcomes by Quality of Service Learning

It was hypothesized that participation in STEM service-learning courses will increase students’ civic engagement attitudes, civic engagement behaviors and interest in pursuing a career in a STEM field. Additionally, a secondary data analysis component was conducted through the CSU’s Student Success Dashboard to examine specific key variables and other demographic information for all eligible students in the study.
