Campus Coordinators

Each California State University campus has a designated Pre-Doctoral Program Campus Coordinator who serves as the primary contact for students, faculty, and staff involved in the program. Coordinators are essential partners in ensuring that every eligible CSU student has access to accurate information, mentorship opportunities, and application support for the California Pre-Doctoral Program.

If you have questions about eligibility, the application process, or how to use scholarship funds, your Campus Coordinator should be your first point of contact.

The Role of the Campus Coordinator

Campus Coordinators play both an advisory and an administrative role. They connect the statewide California Pre-Doctoral Program Office with students and faculty on their individual campuses, helping to maintain smooth communication and equitable access to program resources.

Coordinators typically:

  • Advise prospective applicants on eligibility, deadlines, and the components of a competitive application.
  • Support faculty mentors and scholars throughout the award year, ensuring that activities and travel align with program guidelines.
  • Provide campus-level outreach, helping raise awareness about the program among students from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds.
  • Facilitate document submission and coordinate local review or endorsement processes before campus nominations are submitted to the Chancellor’s Office.
  • Assist scholars in managing Pre-Doctoral funds, including allowable expenditures, travel authorization, and reimbursements.
  • Serve as liaisons between their campus and the Chancellor’s Office, sharing updates, policy changes, and best practices.

How Campus Coordinators Support Students

For students, whether applying for the first time or currently completing their scholarship year, the Campus Coordinator is a key resource. Coordinators can:

  • Help you interpret application instructions and deadlines
  • Offer feedback on essays or the proposed budget plan
  • Connect you with potential faculty mentors on your campus
  • Clarify allowable uses of the $5,000 award
  • Guide you through reporting and reimbursement procedures

Your coordinator’s goal is to help you navigate the process with confidence and make the most of your Pre-Doctoral experience.
