Romey Sabalius

Romey Sabalius has been a Professor of German in the Department of World Languages & Literatures at San José State University since 1995.  Previously, he was a faculty member at Utah State University and Vassar College.  He also was Visiting Professor at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, and he delivered guest lectures and keynote speeches worldwide. 

Dr. Sabalius is fluent in five languages.  He has lived on several continents and visited over 120 countries.  Multi-ethnic by birth and multi-cultural by choice, he is committed to fostering inclusive excellence.  He is an advocate for broad-based access to higher education and its affordability.  Furthermore, he is a strong proponent of providing California students with a global education that ideally would include an international experience such as study abroad.

Prior to being appointed to the Board of Trustees, Dr. Sabalius served for 14 years on the Academic Senate of the CSU.  He holds an M.A. degree from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Southern California.
