What is redirection?
Redirection provides the opportunity to forward your Cal State Apply application to a CSU campus that is interested in your application and are ready to offer you admission.

Who is eligible for redirection?
If you are a
California resident for tuition purposes, applied as one of the applicant types below, and not yet received an admission decision to any CSU to which you applied due to
limited enrollment capacity, you are eligible for redirection.
When does redirection happen?
Redirection notifications are sent via email in mid-March for fall and mid-November for spring.
Interested? Here’s what to do:
If you qualify for placement at another CSU campus, you’ll get an email with step-by-step instructions. You’ll need to log in to your Cal State Apply account and choose a first-choice and second-choice CSU campus — or let us know if you don’t want to participate.
After you select your two campuses, our team will make every effort to send your application to a matching or similar major at your first-choice campus. To improve your chances of being considered by your top choice, make sure to update your Cal State Apply application as soon as possible.
Once your application has been sent to the new campus, that CSU will email you directly with next steps. This may include admission details, how to register for orientation, and financial aid information (if applicable).
When should I decide?
There’s no set deadline—but the sooner you respond, the better! Acting early helps your campus, process your admission, prepare your financial aid package (if applicable) and get you registered for orientation and classes.
I’m not interested, do I have to notify the CSU?
Yes, please login to your Cal State Apply account and follow steps listed above. Respond “No” in step four and click save.
Other Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I being asked if I would like my application redirected?
You applied to the CSU and have not yet received an admission decision, possibly due to enrollment capacity at the campuses you selected. Additional CSU campuses have taken interest in your application and would like the chance to receive your application and offer you an admission decision.
Do I have to pay a $70 application fee to have my application forwarded to another eligible CSU?
No, you do not need to pay another application fee to have your application forwarded to another CSU!
Can I change my mind about the campuses I chose to have my application redirected to?
No. Once you choose your first- and second-choice campuses you cannot change your choices. However, if CSUs are still accepting applications in Cal State Apply, you are more than welcome to login, add additional programs to your shopping cart, and submit your application to those campuses. However, a $70 application fee will be requirerd for each new program you apply to.
If I agree to redirection and later decide it is not for me, are there penalties for canceling or not accepting admission at a redirected campus?
No, there are no penalties. When the campus you selected offers an admission decision, you can decide simply not to accept the offer.
What if I applied to a highly impacted major and the major is impacted at the campus to which I choose to be redirected?
Your application will be redirected to the campus you selected, and a closely related major or an undeclared major will be assigned. You can work directly with the new campus to learn more about their available majors.
