GPA Calculator

Your CSU “a-g” grade point average (GPA) is calculated based on all grades earned after 9th grade. Credit and No Credit grades are not included in the calculation. Don’t know your current GPA? Find out using the GPA Calculator. For more information regarding admissions eligibility, please visit the Freshman: Admission Requirements and the First-Time Freshman Guidance pages. Please be advised that due to impaction, many campuses have supplemental admission criteria. You can review campus-specific information at Impacted Undergraduate Majors and Campuses.

How to Calculate Your “a–g” GPA

Step 1: Count Your Grades

  • Look at all your “a–g” courses taken after 9th grade (10th–12th grade only).
  • For each grade you earned (A, B, C, D, or F), count how many times you received that grade.
  • Ignore pluses and minuses.
    • Example: B+ or B– both count as a B.
  • Enter the number next to each letter grade in the chart.
    • Example: If you earned four As in your courses, enter 4 in the “Count” column next to “A”

Step 2: Count Your Honors/AP/IB/College Courses
If you’ve taken any approved honors, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or college courses in grades 10–12:

  • Count how many of these courses you completed with a C or better.
  • Each semester counts separately (a full-year course = 2 semesters).
  • You can only use up to 8 semesters total for extra honors points.
  • Of the 8 honors points, only 2 semesters from 10th grade can be counted for honors credit (2 points).
  • Do not count any honors courses where you earned a D or F.
  • For college courses, each semester grade counts twice.
    • Example: If you earned a B in a community college biology class, count it as 2 Bs.
