A Note from Luke Wood

President WoodWe are thrilled to extend an invitation on behalf of the California State University (CSU) System, in collaboration with Sacramento State as the host campus, to join us for our second biennial Juneteenth Symposium.

Under the theme “Let Freedom Ring, Breaking Chains and Elevating to New Heights,” this year’s symposium is dedicated to fostering commitments across all CSU campuses to invest in and enhance the lives of our Black students. We aim to achieve this through increased access, strategic resource allocation, dismantling barriers, and closing equity and opportunity gaps.

The Juneteenth planning team has carefully curated this year’s symposium grounded in the values of education, excellence, and elevation. Our goal is to equip participants with innovative tools and high-impact practices that will produce transformational changes, ensuring that all 23 CSU campuses become and remain environments where Black students can truly thrive.

Anticipate an extraordinary event! The symposium will serve as a celebration of liberation, highlighting progress despite limitations, and a reclamation to support the success of the Black community. We extend an invitation to all members of the CSU family, our dedicated supporters, and our valued community partners to join us virtually June 13-14, 2024. As a collective, we will continue to build foundations and set out to break the chains of oppression, dismantle systemic racism, sexism, racelighting, challenge low expectations, and combat anti-Blackness. In doing so, we aim to show the citizens of California, our nation, and the world that the CSU is committed to taking actionable steps to solidify the success of our Black students.

We enthusiastically anticipate your participation in this significant event, marking our stride as a system toward a more inclusive future at the CSU.
