B.S. General Engineering (1999)

  • Was selected as an astronaut in 2013. In 2012, he was serving as a Legislative Fellow in the U.S. Senate when he was selected as an astronaut candidate. He was chosen as one of eight astronauts out of a field of more than 6,000.
  • Glover served as pilot and second-in-command on the SpaceX Crew Dragon, named Resilience, which launched to the International Space Station in Nov. 2020. He became the first Black astronaut to complete a long-term stay on the vessel. During his 168 days in space as a station systems flight engineer, Glover completed four spacewalks, spoke with Vice President Kamala Harris, and delivered Cal Poly’s fall 2020 commencement address.
  • Glover holds a Bachelor of Science in General Engineering from Cal Poly, a Master of Science in Flight Test Engineering, a Master of Science in Systems Engineering and a Master of Military Operational Art and Science.
  • As an undergraduate at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo he was a NCAA Division-I wrestler & football player, led efforts to establish the first student-funded outreach and retention center in the California Public University system, and was awarded the College of Engineering Service to the Community Award.
  • After Cal Poly, joined the U.S. Navy and began preflight training, earning his wings of gold in 2001. Has had an illustrious career as a Naval Aviator and test pilot, accumulating 2,000 flight hours in more than 40 aircraft, including the F/A-18 Hornet, Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler, over 400 carrier arrested landings, and 24 combat missions.
  • Honors include Distinguished Graduate and Regimental Commander, U.S. Navy Officer Candidate School; Onizuka Prop Wash Award, United States Air Force Test Pilot School; Distinguished Graduate, Air Command and Staff College; a Navy Commendation Medal and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals. Named one of Jet Magazine’s inaugural 40 under 40 in 2013.
  • Is a member of the Dean's Advisory Council for the College of Engineering at Cal Poly and is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Society of Experimental Test Pilots, National Society of Black Engineers, International Council on Systems Engineering, and more.
