Richard Bradshaw is a visionary leader, devoted volunteer and a loyal champion of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. As an esteemed alumnus, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and a passion for giving back to his community, including supporting at-risk Cal Poly students and Cal Poly student athletes. For the last 18 years he has served as a member of the Cal Poly Foundation Board of Directors and was one of the original contributors to the Cal Poly Foundation Fund for Students that provides emergency grants to students facing hardships.

Mr. Bradshaw is chairman of the Board at Montgomery Street Income Securities, an investment company. His business career as a financial executive spans nearly 50 years, beginning with Bank of America and concluding with his role as partner and Chief Operating Officer at Venrock, a venture capital firm that invests in early-stage technology, health care, digital media and energy companies. In 1992, as chair of San Francisco School Volunteers, he developed and led a program under which major companies in San Francisco provided paid time off and transportation for employees to volunteer in public school classrooms.

Mr. Bradshaw earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Cal Poly in 1970 and a master's degree in business from Stanford University in 1972. In 1998, he was selected as the College of Science and Mathematics Honored Alumnus.

In recognition of the decades of service to Cal Poly and his advocacy on behalf of students, the Board of Trustees of the California State University and California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo are proud to confer upon Richard Bradshaw the honorary degree of Doctor of Science.
