Father and son Norman B. Porges and Evan A. Porges are champions for the economic and social health of the Central Valley of California and for higher education as a catalyst to create a region that is diverse, inclusive, connected, vibrant and sustainable. Together, they built and sold an award-winning company recognized as the largest privately-owned car wash in California with nineteen facilities in twelve Central Valley California cities—Prime Shine Inc.

Recognizing this inspirational father and son team for demonstrating the American dream— starting a family business, growing multiple locations, building a diverse workforce, selling the business at the opportune time, and then continuing to live in and support the region where they started it all—represents one of the highest levels of achievement in business. Their business model, employment practices, community service and philanthropy have been lauded by multiple organizations and associations and their legacy as entrepreneurs and innovators firmly established.

The Porges' long-standing and deep commitment to education is transforming the region served by California State University, Stanislaus. They have generously provided their time, talents and treasures to establish the Warrior Entrepreneurship Initiative to connect the university to the Central Valley's entrepreneurial ecosystem and nurture budding entrepreneurs. Additionally, they created the Porges Family Scholarship for Entrepreneurship whereas recipients are known as Champion Scholars, and they continue to support the legendary Champions of the American Dream award and event that was founded at Stanislaus State in 1997. Its legacy continues today in connecting students with business leaders to nurture the enterprising spirit of students.

This father and son team truly espouse the humane values of the California State University and California State University, Stanislaus of service that enriches the university and the community.

In recognition of their dedication to education and the Central Valley community, the Board of Trustees of the California State University and California State University, Stanislaus are proud to confer upon Norman B. Porges and Evan A. Porges the honorary degrees of Doctor of Humane Letters.
