Philosophers have modeled rational debate and civil discourse for thousands of years.  I believe that this is the key to making the world wiser, kinder, and more just.

Andrew Fiala is a nationally recognized expert in ethics, political philosophy, and the philosophy of peace.  His work focuses on contemporary moral problems, issues in cosmopolitanism and global justice, the philosophy of religion, and critiques of violence.  He is actively engaged with projects that promote civility and international dialogue.  He has worked with schools and local communities on civic and character education.  And he has been involved in promoting interfaith dialogue in the context of the First Amendment.  In addition to his scholarly work, Fiala writes a weekly column on religion, politics, and ethics for the Fresno Bee.  In 2018, his column was recognized by the American Philosophical Association for work in public philosophy.
