Began his career as a bus driver in Los Angeles in 1971.
Oversaw transportation service through the 1984 Olympic Games, the 1992 riots and the 1994 Northridge earthquake while working in operations at Metro.
Became CEO of Metro Transit in Minneapolis-St. Paul in 1997.
Appointed CEO of the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) in 2001. In 2005, OCTA was named the best public transportation system in the nation by the American Public Transportation Association.
In 2010, Leahy returned to Los Angeles to become the CEO of the Metropolitan Transit Authority (Metro).
He was recently recognized by his peers in
Metro Magazine
, a trade publication, as being one of the country’s most influential leaders in the transit industry.
