A dedicated friend of California State University, Long Beach, Mario L. Giannini earned his bachelor of arts from California State University, Northridge majoring in English literature. He also earned his master of laws from the University of Virginia and his juris doctorate from Boston College. He has more than 25 years of operating, management and legal experience in the financial services industry.

Currently, Mr. Giannini is chief executive officer and co-chairman of various investment committees for Hamilton Lane Advisors, LLC, an investment advisory and asset management services firm. He has served on the board of directors since 1998. Prior to becoming chief executive officer in 2001, Mr. Giannini was the president of Hamilton Lane Advisors for four years. He also serves on several advisory boards on behalf of Hamilton Lane and its clients, including Thomas H. Lee, TPG Partners and Providence Equity Partners. Previously, he was executive vice president and general counsel of Industry Valley Insurance Company, deputy general counsel of Fidelity Bank in Philadelphia and senior attorney at Continental Illinois Bank, Chicago.

A strong supporter of Cal State Long Beach, Mr. Giannini is a member of the Carillon Society and a recipient of the honored Carillon Award. Through his giving, he supports the Clorinda Donato Center and the Kyera and Nicole Giannini Scholarship endowment in the College of Liberal Arts.

In recognition of his significant accomplishments and campus impact, the Board of Trustees of the California State University and California State University, Long Beach are proud to confer upon Mario L. Giannini the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.  ​​
