About Us

“I recall reading a passage in 2011 written by a director of the PARC Lab at Xerox, John Seely Brown. He wrote that the half-life of a skill is five years (and shrinking). While we might quibble about when skills become obsolete exactly, I think we can all agree that the 21st century world of work does not predict we ever really graduate – we must be life-long learners if we are to thrive. The California State University's Professional and Continuing Education allows us to collectively embrace that reality. As Commissioners of Professional and Continuing Education we have the opportunity to enable continuous education by building on the unique aspects of our university.

We offer meaningful relationships to all our students through our faculty, advisors, networks, and alumni organizations. Keeping our focus on education as a relationship sets us apart from all other current and future knowledge and content providers. “Made in the CSU” can be a proud assertion across a career and a lifetime.”

“We work as a commission across the system, and our role is to advise the chancellor on matters related to extended university, but also to support new program development, and to celebrate excellence in PaCE programming.”
