History



1857

George W. Minns' Normal School was established in San Francisco, which today is San José State University, and offered teacher-training courses in the evenings, in three-month intervals. The Minns' Normal School later became one of the first state colleges in California.







1933

Fiscal guidelines were developed to clearly establish Extension as self-supporting. Within 20 years, extension became the off-campus arm of the teacher's colleges and formal coursework emerged.









1971

The state legislature established the Continuing Education Reserve Fund (CERF 573-fund).









1977

The Commission on Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE) was established.

2000s​​

In the early 2000s, the state abolished CERF 573-fund and adopted the Extended Education-441 trust fund, which remains in place to date.









Present

The commission evolved to include six Communities of Practice (CoP) to advance the vision and values of the commission. ​
