Every fall, the CSU holds a series of conferences throughout California to prepare guidance counselors at the high school and community college level for the next year. Topics include CSU requirements, financial aid, transferring credits and admissions resources.

This year, counselors had to deal with a new set of issues–the state budget, CSU impaction and what that means for students who want to attend a CSU campus. The bottom line, it is a somewhat different environment for students applying to the CSU. Students need to know the deadlines and stick to them. In some cases, students may face higher admissions criteria–especially if they are seeking a campus outside their local area.
With sessions in the northern, central and southern California, the CSU is getting the word out to as many high schools and community colleges as possible. Nearly 5,000 counselors participated in conferences held in Fresno, Ontario, Pasadena, Sacramento and Santa Clara. Conferences ran from Sept. 21 through Oct. 2.
