The New Generation of Educators Initiative (NGEI) began in 2014 with several CSU campuses and a K-12 partner. Their experiences and contributions formed the foundation for the Initiative approach.

Today, 11 partnerships are in place.
Each partnership focused on goals and strategies that fit its local context. For example, partners collaborated to:
- Enrich or expand teacher residency programs
- Create pathways for candidates to gain relevant experience and join the K-8 teaching faculty in districts facing teacher shortages
- Ensure that candidates have meaningful co-teaching experiences
- Develop curricula that integrates STEM into K-8 learning and teacher preparation
