Fred Ruiz and his father, Louis, co-founded Ruiz Food Products, Inc. in 1964, selling authentic frozen Mexican foods; burritos, enchiladas and tamales to local grocery stores. Today, their El Monterey brand is the #1 frozen Mexican food in the nation. Ruiz Food's second brand - Tornados is one of the leading products sold on convenience store roller grills throughout the United States.
Mr. Ruiz currently serves on the Boards of The California Chamber of Commerce and Trustee Board of UC Merced. He is a member of UC Agriculture & Natural Resources Commission; Advisor and Founding Member of the Institute for Family Business California State University, Fresno. He remains an active member of the California business community.
Mr. Ruiz served 12 years as a Regent for the University of California; Board of Director for McClatchy Newspapers; Board of Director for the California Endowment and Member of Valley Children's Hospital Foundation.
Ruiz Foods employs 3,900 Team Members, with manufacturing facilities in California, Texas and South Carolina. Kim Ruiz Beck, Fred's eldest daughter, is Chairman of the company. Rachel P. Cullen is President and CEO.
