Antonio Garcia

California State University, Stanislaus
TELACU Scholar

My journey to CSU Stanislaus is a dream come true, a future I did not see coming five years ago."

Just before the start of his academic journey, Antonio Garcia was homeless and living at the Stockton Homeless Shelter. His two-year stay at the shelter was a blessing in disguise as he was motivated by the shelter staff and tenants to return to school and pursue his dreams.

Antonio is now excelling as an undergraduate student at California State University, Stanislaus, earning a bachelor’s degree in general biology and a minor in chemistry, where he hopes to pursue a career in research and teaching. While in college, Antonio has been employed as a tutor and supplementary instructor for courses including biology, botany, chemistry and human anatomy. He has also volunteered as a lab assistant for human anatomy and as a microbiology coach for Franklin High School’s Science Olympiad Team.

Currently, Antonio is a research assistant in the Stanislaus State Herbarium and was recently accepted into a summer internship program for the Endangered Species Recovery Program.
