I am sure that what I am working toward now is just the thing that will give my life true purpose."

A former foster child, Carolina Gabaldon faced persistent challenges of physical disability, domestic violence and depression, all of which made her question the possibility of a successful future for herself and her children.

In 2016, Carolina graduated magna cum laude and a member of Phi Kappa Phi with a bachelor’s degree from California State University, San Bernardino, and has since continued on to the master’s program in public health.

Carolina assists the community as a member of Lion’s Club International, where she volunteers in numerous capacities to provide free eyeglasses to the visually impaired with low incomes. In addition, Carolina has volunteered over 600 hours for a children’s diabetic camp and provides community health education. After completion of her master’s degree, Carolina plans to pursue a doctoral degree and career in health policy to improve the life-long opportunities and mental health outcomes for foster youth.
