Mayra Roxi Diaz

My happiness is anchored in my deep connections with others and in knowing that there are always more people and more opportunities to connect.

Mayra Roxi Diaz struggled growing up with a drug addicted mother and an absent father. She was placed in her grandmother's custody at the age of 12. After graduating high school, she financially supported herself entirely through her undergraduate program at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Mayra is a graduate student at California State University, Northridge, working toward her master of science degree in counseling with a specialization in marriage and family therapy. She serves as a counselor at Friends of the Family, providing free therapy to underserved families, children, couples and sex offenders. She previously volunteered as a rape crisis hotline advocate and a wellness intern, teaching the science of positive psychology to her community. Mayra plans to teach in higher education to instill in students the same passion she experiences.
