Diem Hoang and her family emigrated from Vietnam to the United States less than five years ago. Her parents do not speak English, and neither did Diem when she emigrated.

Today, she is a junior at California State University, Fullerton, majoring in business administration, and pursuing concentrations in finance and accounting. Learning English has been her biggest hurdle yet, but the first-generation college student has maintained a 4.0 GPA at both CSUF and Fullerton College, where she earned an AA in business administration.

Diem has been active in the CSUF Finance Association, Student Leadership Institute and College Phi Theta Kappa. In addition, her enthusiasm for helping others led her to volunteer for the Sunkist Library, Tet Festival, Fullerton College Extended Opportunity Programs and Services and CSUF Disabled Student Services. She was awarded the 2011 President’s Volunteer Service Award and two certificates for volunteer service on campus and in the community.

Diem’s plans for the future include pursuing an MBA and doctorate, to realize her career goal of becoming a university professor.
