Gabriel Garcia is a first-generation college student from a Mexican field-working family. For Gabriel, attending college and obtaining a degree seemed unlikely because he did not have the funds for tuition.

However, Gabriel is now a senior at CSU Bakersfield, majoring in theatre arts with a minor in psychology. He plays a lead role in a touring show called New Kid that performs for young audiences. The performance addresses challenges faced by children new to America when they encounter prejudice, language barriers and the tormenting of bullies. Gabriel also volunteered at a local elementary afterschool program and has developed a deep interest in helping children.

After achieving his undergraduate degree, Gabriel plans to enroll in a Master of Fine Arts program. His future may include acting and/or directing. He is committed to contributing to his community, using theatre as a way of giving back and supporting others.
