Th​e December 2024 edition of the STEM-NET, HSI-Hub updates covers several important topics: 
1. Upcoming Conferences 

17th Annual AHSIE Best Practices Conference
Siempre Presente: Reclaiming the Power of Volice, Identity, y Cultura 

  • ​The STEM-NET, HSI-Hub submitted two proposals for the upcoming conference. 
  • Drs. Yolanda Cataño and Harold Stanislaw submitted a joint proposal titled, "Construyendo Puentes: How CSU's STEM-NET, HSI-Hub Fosters STEM Success and Inclusion". 
  • Dr. Guillermo Escalante and Iqbal Atwal submitted a joint proposal titled, "Strengthening Latine/x Recruitment and Retention in STEM: A Collaborative Approach within CSUs". 
2. Past Conferences 

HACU 38th Annual Conference
  • Stanislaus State University and CSU San Marcos' Title III, part F, HSI-STEM grant leaders participated in the conference. 
  • Attended the California HSI Summit (Invitation Only). 
  • Attended the HSI Consortium Dinner hosted by the AZ HSI Consortium & Insidetrack
  • Dr. Yolanda Cataño presented her research titled, "Experiences of LGBTQ+ Latinx Students at California Community College HSIs".

3. Seal of Excelencia
  • Congratulations to CSU Fullerton on their recertification of the seal and Project RAISE's recognition. 
  • This year, eight institutions earned the Seal of Excelencia and nine earned recertification. 
  • Congratulations to the following CSU's who were also recognized: CSU Channel Islands, CSU East Bay, CSU Fresno, CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach, CSU Los Angeles, CSU Northrdige, CSU Sacramento, CSU San Bernardino, CSU San Marcos, San Diego State University, and San Francisco State University. 
4. Research and Grant Opportunities

NSF 24-551: Hispanic-Serving Institutions: Enriching Learning, Programs, and Student Experiences 

  • Solicitation for request for implementation and evaluation projects (IEP) and educational instrumentation (EI). 
  • Submission deadline is February 12, 2025
5. Upcoming Events

STEM-NET, HSI-Hub is launching a series of webinars, trainings, and workshops in Spring of 2025. 
  • This spring semester, we’re thrilled to present an exciting lineup of offerings featuring our very own hub participants, tailored specifically for HSI leaders, practitioners, community members, and advocates.
  • The first workshop is titled, “STEM-NET, HSI-Hub: Servingness in Action”. The Principal Investigators (PIs) leading our current Title III, HSI-STEM Grants at the CSU’s will be defining servingness through their grant activities and programming. They will discuss their current projects and showcase the work they have developed to support our Latinx/e/Hispanic and low-income students.
  • Registration for this workshop will begin in January 2025. Please sign-up for STEM-NET’s listserv to register for this workshop.

Think Tank Retreat 

Febraury 29-March 1, 2024

The two-day Think Tank (Hub) Retreat brought together 21 representatives from nine CSU campuses, including grant project PIs, co-PIs, external evaluators, and team members, to discuss Title III, part F, HSI-STEM grants and ensure the Hub's effectiveness for future iterations. Day one included introductions, a logic model activity, and presentations from each institution on their STEM grants, while day two focused on CSU STEM data, servingness in STEM, and institutionalization through breakout sessions and discussions. The retreat concluded with a review of best practices and next steps, including preparation for the AHSIE 2024 Best Practices conference.
