About CSU STEM VISTA

Our work is focused on eliminating race, class and gender disparities in STEM.

The CSU STEM VISTA program is a one year national service opportunity where VISTAs apply their skills, knowledge and talents to support STEM students in the California State University system. All projects within CSU STEM VISTA are focused on eliminating race, class, and gender disparities in STEM undergraduate degree programs.

VISTA members are also part of the national service program, AmeriCorps VISTA. Often referred to as the domestic Peace Corps, Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) has been fighting poverty in America since 1965.

We embody the AmeriCorps VISTA program’s core principles, which include:

Anti-Poverty Focus

Our VISTA members support CSU campus efforts to support students from all backgrounds, specifically focused on serving students who come from low-income communities, students of color, and students who are first in their family to attend college

Community Empowerment

Our VISTA members believe in and utilize the strengths of the students and incorporate their voice into the planning, development and implementation of their projects.

Capacity Building

Our VISTA members expand the ability of CSU campuses to eliminate equity gaps by building infrastructure, expanding partnerships, securing long-term resources, coordinating trainings and much more.
