Community Partnership Initiative (CPI) Grant

The California State University Community Partnership Initiative (CPI) supports community-based organizations (CBOs) that establish, extend and/or strengthen collaborative partnerships between California State University (CSU) campuses and the communities they serve. The CPI grant seeks to enhance and encourage CBOs' efforts in underrepresented communities that utilize collaborative relationships with CSU campuses to address critical needs in the following areas: Academic Preparation, College Access, Enrollment and Degree Completion.

Eligibility


All applicants, projects and/or programs must be based in the state of California and benefit students grades 6-16 and/or families.

  • Projects or programs must have at minimum one CSU campus partner, indicated by a signed MOU between both parties.
  • CBOs must demonstrate 3 or more years of work in the area(s) of academic preparation, college access, enrollment support, and/or degree completion.
  • CBOs must be tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organizations.
  • Organizations must provide an in-kind and/or fiscal matching contribution equal to 50% of the total award. Allowable matching expenditures are:
    • Equipment
    • Materials & Supplies
    • Salaries & Wages
    • Travel

Partnerships


Eligible partnerships must expand the CSU campus’s capacity to reach and serve their local underserved communities.

  • Eligible community partners include but are not limited to:
    • Community-based organizations, such as social service and faith-based organizations
    • Neighborhood, civic and merchant associations
    • Middle Schools and High Schools​
  • Eligible university partners include:
    • CSU campus’s academic departments
    • CSU campus’s enrollment and student support services
    • Student organizations with innovative practices that support students in achieving their academic goals (Must be an officially recognized campus organization).
