Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi is a leader and a role model for women worldwide. Her accomplishments continually serve as an inspiration to California State University, Chico and its diverse student body. Sheikha Lubna graduated ninth in her United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) class and planned to pursue a career in architecture or medicine. While attending a language school in Britain, she discovered a love for information technology. This discovery and a series of parallel events landed her at Chico State to pursue a computer science degree. She was the President of the Computer Science Honor Society, Eta Kappa Nu.

Sheikha Lubna is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Arab Technology Award for Outstanding contribution to E-Commerce (2005); Premio Minerva Internal Award – for outstanding contributions in Politics & Economy (2005); American Business Award – American Business Council of Dubai & the Northern Emirates (2004); Entrepreneurship Award – House of Lords in Great Britain (2004); Honorary “Kentucky Colonel” – Commonwealth of Kentucky (2003); IT Woman of the Year – Datamatix (2001); IT Woman of the Year – American Business Council of Dubai & the Northern Emirates (2001); Personal Contribution Award – Business.com (2001); Support to Leadership, Quality and Change Award – Dubai Quality Group (2000); and The Best Personal Achievement Award, ITP (2000).

Sheikha Lubna received a bachelor’s degree in computer science from California State University, Chico and an Executive MBA from the American University of Sharjah. She lectures at universities worldwide, emphasizing equal rights of women. She is the UAE Minister of Foreign Trade. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Tejari.com, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Emirates Foundation, Abu Dhabi and the Arab International Women’s Forum. She is on the Board of Trustees for Dubai University and the Dubai Autism Center. She serves as a trustee for Zayed University, United Arab Emirates, Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management and Total Quality Management College, Dubai. She also volunteers for the Friends of Cancer Patients Society.

In recognition of her professional accomplishment as a global leader, the Board of Trustees of the California State University and California State University, Chico are proud to confer upon Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi the honorary degree of Doctor of Science.
