Businesswoman/Community Leader

San Diego State University

A hard working, civic-minded, community and industry icon, Patricia L. Roscoe is a leading architect and advocate for the international tourism industry and a woman dedicated to the preparation of the next generation of leaders.

For 26 years, Ms. Roscoe owned and operated PRA Destination Management Company, growing it from a local firm to an international business with 17 franchised offices located in major tourist destinations. In 2007, Ms. Roscoe sold her company to Paris-based Allied International and turned her time, talent, and treasure to her industry, community and civic organizations.

She has served on a number of boards in support of tourism and business in the San Diego region: San Diego Zoo Global, San Diego Tourism Authority, San Diego County Hotel-Motel Association, San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, San Diego Rotary Club, and U.S.S. Midway Foundation, among others. She is a Junior Achievement Hall of Fame Laureate, a lifetime Girl Scout who was recognized by the organization as one of their "Cool Women" and a Promise Circle Honoree along with her partner, Jim Tiffany. Three organizations have recognized her with Lifetime Achievement Awards: the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau, the San Diego Rotary Club with the inaugural Helibron Award and the International Special Events Industry. Yearly, the San Diego Hotel-Motel Association honors an industry professional with the "Patti Roscoe Person of the Year Award."

A dedicated friend of San Diego State University, Ms. Roscoe co-founded its L. Robert Payne School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and helped raise more than $20 million to support it. Her personal gift to the school created an endowed faculty position in support of the Institute for Meetings and Events. Ms. Roscoe continues to support the Payne School by sitting on the Board of Advisers and contributing countless hours mentoring students and leveraging her professional relationships to develop internship and employment opportunities.

Ms. Roscoe's commitment to SDSU also has benefited musical theatre, veteran's programs, athletics, faculty research and the arts. A board member of SDSU's Campanile Foundation, Ms. Roscoe is an enthusiastic volunteer and spokesperson for the university.

In recognition of her commitment to SDSU, the San Diego community and the hospitality and tourism industry, the Board of Trustees of the California State University and San Diego State University are proud to confer upon Patricia L. Roscoe the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
