Dr. Francisca Beer, Professor of Finance and Director of the Jack H. Brown College (JHBC) Office of Inclusion and Engagement (previously the Director of the Office of Student Research (OSR)), California State University, San Bernardino. Dr. Beer holds a Ph.D. in Finance, a Graduate Degree in Computer Science and a Master’s in Commercial Engineering. She has published more than 50 articles in books, monographs and refereed journals. Dr. Beer has received several awards for superior research and is a JHBC Distinguished Research Fellowship.

Dr. Beer has demonstrated exemplary dedication to student success and work in promoting and facilitating student scholarly research and creative activities. Dr. Beer is a firm believer that research experiences strongly improve students’ communication and collaborating abilities. For many students, especially for undergraduates, research experiences are their most memorable experiences as students. Dr. Beer created the Office of Student Research (OSR) with a vision to enhance research activities for undergraduate and graduate students in every college across the campus. She established the OSR Peer Research Consultant program, the OSR Peer Lab program, the OSR Journal of Student Research and the OSR Summer Research program. Under her leadership, the OSR has awards more than 100 grants to students and faculty per year. Six years ago she established the “Meeting of the Minds,” a campus wide student research symposium that began with 45 presenters and has since grown to over 218 presenters. The OSR is valued by students and staff on campus: students have become more engaged in their academic studies, connected to the campus, their professors and other students, and often go on to enroll in graduate programs.

Dr. Beer’s dedication to student success is also exemplified by her activities with the Mellon Mays Fellowship, the National Science Foundation S-STEM grant and the Chancellor Student Success Initiative Grant. She was the Co-PI for Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship ($425,814 in 2018), the Co-PI for NSF S-STEM grant ($5 million in 2017) and the Co-PI for the Chancellor Student Success Initiative Grant ($649,000 in 2014).

Dr. Beer is also strongly committed to diversity. She received the President’s Staff Award in 2018 for her involvement with the Women Leadership Conference and is currently developing the JHBC Office of Inclusion and Engagement. Francisca has also earned many professional awards and honors throughout the years including: “Faculty Mentor Award”, “Faculty Advisor of the Year”, “Award for Excellence in Teaching” in the Department of Accounting and Finance, “Dean’s Outstanding Teaching Award”, and “Outstanding Professional Achievement, Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society” for the AACSB Accredited Business Programs.
