Andrew Jones Appointed CSU Executive Vice Chancellor, General Counsel and Secretary to the Board of Trustees

California State University (CSU) Chancellor Timothy P. White has appointed Andrew Jones to serve as executive vice chancellor, general counsel and secretary to the Board of Trustees. Jones will assume leadership of the CSU's Office of General Counsel January 1, 2018. He succeeds Framroze Virjee who was recently appointed president of California State University, Fullerton. Jones' appointment will be brought to the CSU Trustees for approval at their January meeting.

"As a product of the CSU, I know full well the power that our university has to transform the lives of our graduates," said Jones. "I'm excited to be able to serve in a leadership capacity for this great institution that has made such a difference in my life, and to work with the Chancellor and his team, the Trustees, the campus Presidents, and the talented folks in the General Counsel's office to provide our students access to opportunity and a high-quality education."

Jones currently serves as the CSU's associate vice chancellor and deputy general counsel. In that capacity he coordinates with the executive vice chancellor and general counsel in supervising the operations of the Office of General Counsel and overseeing all legal services for the CSU's 23 campuses. Jones' other roles within the CSU include service as interim vice chancellor of Human Resources and interim general counsel. Jones joined the CSU's Office of General Counsel in 2000 and subsequently served as campus counsel for a number of campuses and served as the leader for the General Counsel's business and finance team.

"Andy's appointment is well-deserved and maintains stability and consistency within the Office of General Counsel," said White. "Throughout his various roles within the CSU, he has always provided excellent leadership and he has earned the trust of campus presidents, CSU trustees and the executive team at the Chancellor's Office."

In his new role, Jones reports jointly to Chancellor White and the Board of Trustees, serves as an officer of the Board, and assumes various systemwide duties.

"The secretary for the CSU Board of Trustees plays a critical role in informing the board about the legal issues the university faces as well as maintaining the integrity of the open meeting process," added Rebecca Eisen, the chair of the CSU trustees. "As someone with a deep wealth of experience with the CSU, Andy will continue to provide wise counsel on these issues and we welcome his input during our trustees' meetings."

Prior to joining the CSU, Jones was in private practice as a partner in the Los Angeles-based firm of Adams, Duque & Hazeltine, and later as a partner in his own firm, Myers & Jones, LLP.

A graduate of the CSU, Jones earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Long Beach State University prior to earning his J.D. from the University of California, Davis.
