Art Barajas began his club management career during his senior year at Cal Poly Pomona. His student internship at Glendora Country Club evolved into a four-year job experience, and during that time, he transitioned from intern to assistant club manager. Barajas furthered his repertoire over the next two years at private for-profit clubs with the American Golf Corporation.

"Perhaps the most important advice I received as an undergraduate was, 'Get involved and stay involved,' and I repeat this advice to current students," he said. "Becoming engaged in campus clubs and university government teaches students to interact with people of all ages and levels of power. Student chapters of professional organizations such as the Club Managers Association teach students to network not only with their peers, but also with key industry leaders and potential employers."

Since graduation, Barajas has developed a diverse and impressive background in private club management with areas of interest including club operations management, golf shop and golf course maintenance, capital projects management, personnel administration, budgeting and more. He has promoted and managed concerns that post between $3.5 million and $11.5 million in annual revenues. Since his days at Cal Poly Pomona, Barajas has been very active with the Club Managers Association of America. He served as historian and president for the student chapter’s executive board and was secretary of the 2006 Southern California Chapter Board of Directors. His passion for fine wine has led to his lasting involvement with the International Wine Society. He is on its board of managers and was its chairman for the 2006 World Conference.
