Cate White

Raised in the backwoods culture of guns, 4x4s and meth in Northern California, White is familiar with the margins. Her symbolically charged narrative paintings illuminate many of our personal and collective shadows in relation to class, race, gender, trauma, morality and power. To communicate and represent across social strata, White uses a democratic aesthetic of humor, emotional vulnerability and vitality. While primarily a painter, she often exhibits her work in multimedia installations that include sculpture, video and books.

Elizabeth Huey

Elizabeth Huey's paintings explore human connection and healing by engaging passion and delirium and our society’s extraordinary attempts to create or cure these conditions. Her figures are often immersed in scenes of rehabilitation and recreation. Born from a substratum of wild, expressive paint, the architectural and figural elements of her work invoke multiple styles and eras and create a disjuncted sense of seeing things from the inside out. Huey’s canvases often revisit radical historical figures, such as Marie Curie and the 13th century activist nun Hildegard von Bingen, who fought corruption in the Catholic Church. Huey draws imagery from her own photographs as well as an ever-expanding collection of found photos, Googled snapshots and historical research.
