Governor Appoints Eisen to Board of Trustees

September 28, 2012

Governor Jerry Brown has announced the appointment of Rebecca Eisen to the California State University Board of Trustees.

Eisen has been a partner at the law firm of Morgan Lewis and Bockius LLP since 2003. She was an attorney at Brobeck Phleger and Harrison LLP from 1980 to 2003 and served as a partner from 1989 to 2003. Eisen is president of the Oakland School for the Arts Board of Directors, where she has been a member since 2007. She earned a master of arts degree in English from San Francisco State University and a juris doctorate degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law.

The appointment requires Senate confirmation. Trustees do not receive a salary for their service to the university – with exceptions for the Chancellor and the Faculty Trustee.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance of the 23-campus system. Under present law, there are 25 Trustees (24 voting, one non-voting). Five Trustees are ex officio members: the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Speaker of the Assembly, State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Chancellor.
