The CSU Office of Federal Relations (OFR) works in Washington, D.C., to advance the interests of the nation's largest and most diverse university system. The OFR serves as a resource to Washington-based policymakers, including the California Congressional delegation, as well as to educational associations and media. The OFR also leads system efforts each year to formulate and coordinate the federal priorities of the CSU's 23 campuses.
The Higher Education Act (HEA) was enacted in 1965 “to strengthen educational resources of our colleges and universities and to provide financial assistance for students in postsecondary education.” Today, the HEA makes college possible for hundreds of thousands of CSU students and enhances the ability of CSU campuses to provide a high-quality education to low-income and non-traditional students, and prepare them to contribute to the nation’s success. Last reauthorized in 2008, the HEA is now due for renewal. The CSU is committed to substantially increasing student success. Strengthened HEA programs can greatly assist this effort.
