Contribution Highlights
- An anonymous $2.75 million bequest intention was received in October 2011 to be used to establish a permanent endowment to provide university-wide, full ride scholarships. The scholarships include funds for tuition/fees, books, room and board and other classroom necessities and are available to full-time students in any major with a demonstrated financial need.
- Mary Auvil, a 1964 graduate of San José State University and widow of SJSU Professor Kenneth Auvil, established a bequest intention for $1.6 million. The Kenneth and Mary Auvil Fund in Printmaking will be used to establish a permanent endowment that will provide the resources for a faculty chair or visiting professor in printmaking, as well as a scholarship in printmaking in the Department of Art and Art History.
- Steve and Cheryl Caplan, 1965 and 1967 graduates of San José State University, documented their intent to bequeath the university $1.5 million. Steve Caplan is also a member of the Tower Foundation Board of Directors. The funds will be divided evenly to establish the Caplan Faculty Fellowship in the College of Business, the Teacher Innovation Fund in the Lurie College of Education, and the Caplan Family Athletic Scholarships in the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.
- Colleen Wilcox, a longtime friend of San José State University, committed $1 million to establish the Colleen Wilcox Professor Endowment. The endowment will provide funds to establish the Colleen Wilcox Professorship in Communicative Disorders and Sciences within the Lurie College of Education.
- The Osher Foundation, founded in 1977 by Bernard Osher, a respected businessman and community leader, seeks to improve the quality of life through support for higher education and the arts. As such, the foundation made a $500,000 grant to the university to establish the Osher Scholarship Endowment for California Community College Transfer Students. Scholarships will be awarded to qualifying students transferring to SJSU from a community college.
