Contribution Highlights
- The 50th Anniversary Inaugural Gala, raising more than $225,000,
featured a sold-out dinner followed by a concert performance from
actor, director and musician Gary Sinise and his “Lieutenant Dan
Band” at the University Amphitheater.
- The Nursing Program received a boost thanks to a $270,000 Kaiser
Permanente gift, which is allowing more nursing students to
graduate with college degrees. The gift is already addressing a
local, statewide and nationwide demand for nurses.
- A $10,000 donation from Gary and Marcia Nelson helped start a
new Masters of Science in Nursing. Fourteen nurses began the
program, which offers two tracks: Nursing Education and
Gerontological Nursing.
- The Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation helped students seeking
both professional and liberal arts degrees in music. The Foundation’s
gift to the Department of Music brings its total charitable
giving to nearly $50,000. Each year, the gift enables students and
faculty to continue their exploration of music and find ways to
share their work with the people of the Central Valley.
- University photographer Cary Edmondson was selected as the
grand gold medal winner in the Photographer of the Year competition
of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
- The Promise Scholars Program, seeking to provide emancipated
foster youth with greater access to higher education, received an
appropriation of $285,000 from the federal government. The
Promise Scholars Program provides college admission, guidance,
housing and counseling resources to a greater number of high
school graduates from foster care situations.
