Contribution Highlights
- Alumnus Tom Hardt (’73) and his wife, Barbara, contributed
$1 million, resulting in the naming of the new CSU Bakersfield
baseball field. Their generous donation supported the
construction of the on-campus, top-level baseball training
and playing facility, a critical component of the university’s
athletics program’s move to NCAA Division I. Mr. Hardt also
served as the general contractor for the baseball facility, as
well as a solicitor of many in-kind gifts that are part of the
field construction.
- CSU Bakersfield received over $32.3 million in federal, state
and nongovernmental multiyear grants in the 2008-09 fiscal
year. The School of Natural Science and Mathematics received
grants ranging from $10,420,851 from the National Institutes
of Health for the first five years of a 25-year National
Children’s Study to a $300,000 grant for a study of post-fire
vegetation recovery.
- CSU Bakersfield is at a critical time in its history and has
sharpened its case for support. The university has developed
strategic plan actions; completed a set of academic program
scans; prepared for WASC accreditation; produced a
comprehensive report to the NCAA as a base for its Division
I move; and developed key fundraising initiatives with active
participation by the provost, deans and faculty members.
