- The California State University mounted the largest
Professional Science Master’s program in the nation with a
$1.3 million grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The
innovative graduate degree integrates science and mathematics
education with business management skills preparing graduates
to succeed in the nation’s high-growth technology sectors.
- Governor Schwarzenegger engaged university and military
leaders to clear the pathway to higher education and economic
opportunity for veterans exiting military service. Private support
helped the California State University provide specialized
outreach efforts and academic counseling to prepare veterans for
careers in health and teaching professions.
- The Stuart Foundation provided $180,000 for an initiative to
implement strategies to increase the retention and graduation
of former foster youth. The intent is to eliminate some of the
barriers these students face in academic preparation, access to
housing, medical services, and financial aid.
- To improve both the diversity and numbers of California’s
health care providers, the California Endowment partnered
with the California State University to examine barriers to
enrollment in health professional schools. The study will reveal
how to improve educational practices in each of California’s
public higher education segments.
