Contribution Highlights:
- Cal Poly Pomona faculty and students worked with 70 fourth- and
fifth-graders
to build robots out of Legos®. The hands-on
problem-solving
exercise culminated in a robotics competition. The Confidence Foundation provided $50,000 in underwriting for the Robotics Initiative to promote interest in pursuing further study in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
- Environmental learning teams were provided funding in the amount of $200,000 from the Ernest Prete, Jr. Foundation. Through the use of digital video cameras, telemetry and Internet resources,"virtual" visitors will experience realtime
images from the rainforest.
- Students will enjoy an upclose
look at spacecraft design at the new Orbital Space Plane Crew Capsule Mockup, generously donated by the Boeing Co. to the College of Engineering. The capsule mockup is designed to accommodate, safely protect and sustain four astronauts during space launch and recovery operations.
