Contribution Highlights:
- A $10 million commitment by real estate developer and San Diego
Chargers owner Alex G. Spanos, and his wife, Faye, served as the
cornerstone donation for the remodeling of Hornet Stadium and the
construction of a planned Recreation, Wellness and Events Center.
The gift is the largest ever to the university.
- The Eli and Edythe L. Broad Foundation provided a gift of $2 million
toward construction of a new athletic facility.
- Professor Marda Lee West, who passed away at 61 following a 35-year
campus career, donated $795,715 from her estate to fund an endowed
scholarship and equipment purchases in the Biological Sciences Department.
A bequest in the amount of $434,000 from the Thomas & Hope Burke Trust
established the Bruce F. McElroy Scholarship Endowment in the College of
Business Administration.
- Students in the Native American Studies program were the beneficiaries
of a $250,000 gift from the Rumsey Community Fund.
