The California State University and its campuses were
created with a mission to provide all qualified California students access to an
affordable, high-quality university education. To carry out this
mission, we must recruit and retain the best faculty, provide
modern libraries, laboratories and facilities, give students access to
cutting-edge technology, and increase our capacity to accommodate
a booming enrollment.
Fulfilling all of these commitments can be a challenging job even
in the best of economic times. But in the past year, we have faced
the additional challenges of larger-than-expected enrollment increases and diminishing
state resources. These factors have created an especially difficult environment for
carrying out our mission.
That is why we are especially grateful for the continuing support of our donors,
alumni and friends. Despite the economic downturns in the state and across the
nation, giving to the CSU was at an all-time high over the past year. This
support provides a margin of excellence that allows us to enhance our programs,
help more students, and fulfill our critical mission. Thanks to the ongoing
commitment of our friends and supporters, we are laying a strong foundation
for the California State University’s future.
