The California State University continues to provide
leadership in credentialing high quality teachers for California's K-12 diverse
classrooms. During 2002-03, the CSU provided 55 percent of all the new teachers
prepared in the state (CCTC, April 2003). In addition, the Teacher Education Annual
Evaluation (April 2005) reaffirms the quality of these new teachers prepared by the
CSU. For example:
- Principals reported that 83 percent of CSU graduates are well prepared or
adequately prepared to teach reading, and 85 percent to teach mathematics.
- In 2004, 85 percent of first year K-12 teachers reported that their CSU
preparation helped them learn to teach English learners effectively.
- Principals reported that 96 percent of CSU's teaching graduates are well or
adequately prepared to know and understand the subjects of the curriculum at their grade level.
