CSU Synergy

Transforming How Things Get Done

Achieving fiscal sustainability. Committed to our students, faculty, and staff. Setting a new direction.

Synergy encompasses a process where the CSU joins together to look at how things can be done more effectively and efficiently. By asking if there is a better way to get things done, opportunities are being found to improve performance, service, and outcomes through collaborations on and between campuses.

Synergy efforts within the CSU have already reduced administrative costs and will significantly reduce future costs by millions of dollars.

CSU Synergy leverages the strengths of the CSU and refocuses effort. All Californians benefit: A stronger public university provides well-prepared graduates who work in the industries that fuel the state's economy.

Presidential SYNERGY Initiative Moves Forward

Next step for Procure to Pay (P2P) Shared Services Initiative: Detailed Design, Project Planning, and Calculation of Return on Investment

In 2012, a Presidential Synergy committee developed a high level transformational design of the P2P processes and identified potential benefits of implementing this approach. The designs presented are very similar to those now common in the private sector and currently being adopted successfully by other higher education institutions. The report covers the current state of P2P operations and the future state design. To implement, the CSU envisions a multi-phased approach over several years to fully complete the initiative. Phase One will require creation of a P2P Shared Services Center Implementation Plan. If the plan is deemed practicable and fiscally sound, subsequent phases required to implement the initiative will be managed with a separately identified project budget.
