College Preparations Begin Now

We have a tradition every semester at Sacramento State’s commencement ceremonies.

We ask those who are the first in their family to graduate from college to stand, and we give them a round of special applause.

On Super Sunday, which begins in Northern California this weekend, we are reaching out to find students who can give all of us at the California State University’s 23 campuses a reason to cheer.  We want you to know that a college degree is within reach, and we want to help you obtain it.

I was the first person in my family to earn a degree, but I could not have attended college and gone on to graduate without help.

College advisors, friends in the community and professors were there for me every step of the way.  They encouraged me to enroll, recommended courses of study and laid out the options as I continued my education.

This Sunday and next, we are bringing that help to churches throughout California.  We are sharing the information students need to get into college, such as the application process, financial aid and how to prepare.

We also are asking all those in attendance to help us spread the message.

All it takes to kindle hope in a student is one glimpse of opportunity.  Join us on Super Sunday so the next generation of graduates can stand proud, with a college degree in hand and a brighter future ahead.
