Reference: Penal Code, Sections 12027 and 12031

Any peace officer listed in Section 830.2, who has been honorably retired shall
be issued an identification certificate by the agency the officer retired from.
Any officer retired after January 1, 1981, shall have an endorsement on the
identification certificate stating that the issuing agency approves the officer's
carrying of a firearm. The endorsement shall include the date when the
endorsement is to be renewed.

A retired peace officer who retired after January 1, 1981, shall petition the
issuing agency for renewal of his or her privilege to carry a concealed firearm
every five years. An honorably retired peace officer, retired before January 1,
1981, shall not be required to obtain an endorsement from the issuing agency
to carry a firearm. The agency from which a peace officer is honorably retired
may, upon initial retirement of that peace officer or at any time subsequent
thereto, deny or revoke, for good cause, the retired officer's privilege to carry a
firearm.

The Retired Officer Declaration and identification card for retired CSU Public
Officers can be obtained from the System Coordinator of Public Safety. The
issuing agency (the campus) should notify the System Coordinator when an
officer retires and request the identification card authorizing or not
authorizing the retiree to carry a concealed weapon. See SUAM Appendix BA
4906-PS for a copy of the Retired Officer Declaration and SUAM Appendix BA
4907-PS for an example of the Identification Card.
